Labor Leader Bryan Green today called on the Government to release the new fare structure it claims will result in cheaper fares on the Spirits of Tasmania.
“The fact is the Liberals have broken their promise to cut Spirit fares by 20 per cent and now they’re trying to pull a swifty,” Mr Green said.
“It is reasonable for people to know what the new fares will be and when they will be introduced.
“Rene Hidding should come out today and tell people what the standard fare on the Spirits will be, not what he expects the average reduction to be in four years.
“People are suspicious the cheaper fares will mainly be offered as promotional specials and one off discounts during the shoulder and low seasons. The Government will then boast about a lower average price.
“That is not the genuine, across the board cut in fares people were promised
“It is not 20 per cent, and it’s certainly not what people were led to believe would happen when the Liberals made their election promise.
“What it is, is just plain tricky and deceitful.”
