Labor Leader Bryan Green today called on Adam Brooks to publicly endorse new signage which promotes the Tarkine region to tourists.
“Adam Brooks’ bitter opposition to the name Tarkine now threatens to undermine the tourism potential of the far North-West region,” Mr Green said.
“Mr Brooks went berserk when the Tarkine was named because he wanted to stir up division in the local community for political reasons.
“Mr Brooks should now be big enough to accept it was the right decision and get on board with the Circular Head Council and tourism organisations.
Mr Green said the Circular Head Council is installing a new tourism sign near the Stanley turnoff which headlines the Tarkine name to encourage visitors to travel further west.
The Mayor of Circular Head Daryl Quilliam said in a statement:
“ …the sign is about encouraging visitors to wander further and experience sites such as the Tarkine…
“Council has received support from both the Cradle Coast Authority and Circular Head Tourism Association for the sign, which both agreed would attract additional attention to what is beyond Stanley.”
“The question for Mr Brooks is, does he agree with the name Tarkine or not?”
