Labor and its leader Bryan Green have abandoned North-West families and sensible tourism balance by failing to support the re-opening of the Arthur-Pieman track.
This iconic 90km journey has been enjoyed by North-West families for generations and its re-opening is also supported by the local Aboriginal community.
Re-opening this track was a pre-election pledge by the Liberals and $300,000 has been set aside to ensure Aboriginal middens are identified and protected. This is both sensible and sensitive.
The Liberal Government is committed to creating local jobs and striking the right balance between development and the environment while increasing tourism to 1.5 million people by 2020.
People wanting to use the Arthur-Pieman track will need to apply for a permit and GPS tracking will ensure they stay on the tracks. The tracks will also be closed in winter to avoid track damage.
We are striking the right balance, listening to local communities and getting Tasmania back on track while Labor remains mute living in an idea-free zone.
Bryan Green stood in front of a meeting of 4000 Coasters and supported his Green masters in closing this track. He has clearly lost touch with this community.
Labor has no plans for jobs and now Bryan Green’s silence on re-opening these tracks shows that he is prepared to abandon the voters of Braddon and is still beholden to his Greens partners.
