A community forum at Bridgewater today gave people with disability, their families, carers, service providers and interested members of the public an opportunity to have their say on the transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Hosted by the Minister’s Disability Advisory Committee (MDAC), the forum allowed participants to ask questions and give their feedback on the NDIS roll out.
The NDIS is a revolutionary new approach to providing disability services, and while we are pleased with how the Tasmanian trial is progressing, it is critical that individuals are able to have their say and be informed on the implementation.
Community engagement is an important part of the work of the MDAC, which provides a direct voice of experience of people living with disability in Tasmania.
As Minister, I was pleased to attend the community forum today, and encouraged by the interest in the transition to NDIS in this State and of the work of the MDAC.
The committee has a particular focus on specialist disability services delivered through community sector organisations, and is a significant resource to me, as Minister, and to the Liberal Government.
