Giving Tasmanian businesses a fair go

In a question in the Legislative Council from Independent Member for Launceston Rosemary Armitage today, MLCs heard all three of the Tasmanian Health Organisations and the Tasmanian Prison Service are now using Tasmanian suppliers for their eggs and fresh produce.

Under Labor, our local producers couldn’t get a look in with eggs coming from Queensland for our hospitals.

We said then it wasn’t good enough and that’s why shortly after coming to Government we implemented our Buy Local policy, to give Tasmanian businesses the best chance of winning Government contracts and tenders.

It’s pleasing to see Tasmanian businesses flourishing under a Liberal Government, which is reflected in recent economic indicators showing business confidence is the highest in the nation while retail trade is at a record high.

The Liberal Government has a long-term Plan for Tasmania and while there is still work to be done, we are on the right track and the economy is recovering.
Adam Brooks, Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Trade
