The Australian Medical Association (AMA) Tasmania would like to clarify issues which have
arisen from recent media reports regarding the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Redevelopment
Rescue Taskforce report.

AMA President Tim Greenaway said the statement of AMA support for the Queens Domain
proposal was incorrect. AMA Tasmania has, however, written to the Premier asking the
proposal be considered seriously. This undertaking has been given. AMA Tasmania has
reserved its decision regarding the RHH redevelopment.

AMA Tasmania believes the state deserves a quality tertiary medical facility and will base its
position on the redevelopment options when further information is available.

A/Prof Greenaway was misquoted in the article and has not seen the final report of the
Taskforce, does not know if it has been delivered to the Minister and does not know the
report’s contents.

A choice between an on-site hospital redevelopment and the greenfield proposal is
Professor Greenaway’s interpretation of the situation facing the Government.
