I am a 42 year-old family man who has been married to a wonderful woman for 19 years. We have been together 22 years.
I am also a Liberal voter and have been since I was 18 – and could vote.
I believe Mr Barnett you are wrong (over same-sex marriage); in your heart I feel you are against gay, lesbian people being given the same rights as straight people.
After all, how does it effect you personally?
Does every so-called Liberal politician have the same views as you, Guy Barnett?
If so, does it mean I can no longer vote Liberal?
Remember the biblical quote: “A house divided cannot stand” … well, I know several other Liberal voters who hang their heads in shame because of the association between Guy Barnett’s comments and his agenda … which appears to be about manipulation of this single issue.
It’s certainly not about winning the next election: that is almost assured in this state by Tasmania’s parlous financial state leading on from the global recession.
Guy Barnett … you seem to lack an understanding of families.
Families are not just nuclear; they are all so extended … what about grandparents, aunties and uncles? After all, as they say, it takes a village to bring up a child … it takes a caring community.
Perhaps your Save Marriage Coalition would be better focused on just that – helping save marriages.
It was meant to be for life but so many marriages are failing … like our economy and work.
Enough is enough, Mr Barnett.
I will end by quoting “The Man”, in my view, the greatest man who ever lived:
You Hypocrites!
