The Chairman of Southern Waste Solutions has intervened to request the Southern Beaches Conservation Society to refrain from playing the man and stick to the policy.
SWS Chairman, Ron Ward said this was not the first time the Society had overstepped the mark and requested that professional courtesy is shown to those who are simply employed to do their job.

“People have a right to make their point and that is an important part of the democratic process, but just as importantly people have a right to do their job,” Mr Ward said.
The issue has arisen in the wake of a ‘Waste of Tasmania’ expo that was held on the weekend at Hobart’s Parliament House lawns, when with less than 48 hours to go Southern Waste Solutions received a formal invitation to attend.
“In the past we have been locked out of events run by Southern Beaches, now at the last minute we are invited only to read moments later in the media comments regarding our unlikely attendance,” Mr Ward said.
“As I understand it, our CEO did attend the event, however what was missing was the opportunity for Southern Waste Solutions to demonstrate its best practice approach to waste management in Tasmania.
“Clearly it was a cheap stunt that has backfired and while I applaud them for having a go, I would ask that they show simple common courtesy.”
• Sarah Taylor, in Comments: I am pretty sure a box with ‘Soapbox’ printed on it in white paint coupled with a formal invitation to speak (and an offer to keep the microphone going) does not constitute missing any opportunity to speak. I think, in the light of this Ron – you are the one who has overstepped the mark.
