OPEN LETTER TO THE PRIME MINISTER – 25/07/2012

I have been watching the ABC four corners expose in regards to Julian Assange (25/7/12) and am no longer able to contain my disgust at the treatment, or should I say the lack of action that your office and government have taken in regards to the allegations against Mr Assange ( Swedish Rape Charges ).

Regardless of any personal opinion that I may have in support, or not of Mr Assange’s position, politically or any other of his persuasions, I can’t help but feel that you have left him out to dry.

I damn well hope that I am never in a position of being a victim of un-substantiated allegations from a foreign country, for whatever reason, and then have to rely on “MY” government, to give me support.

After viewing previous statements of yours ( Julia Gillard ) It seems very clear to me that you have not acted as a head of state should.

In “fact” a comment you made about his actions being “illegal”, in regards to the Wikileaks cable releases was, as you will obviously well know was a major faux pau, as nothing in regards to those leaks have ever been proven to be illegal!

It sounds very much to me that you have formed an opinion on Mr Assange based primarily on you allegiance to the United States of America – for reasons I do not need to go into in this letter.

But back to the matter at hand. The Four corners program, along with all previous media reports that I have read or seen on other media, has indicated a lot of holes in the allegations on Mr Assange. ( this opinion is drawn merely by the premise of common sense )!

How can anybody stand by on the premise of such a thin case with so many documented discrepancies, and allow a fellow Australian citizen to be extradited to a country who has a very dubious, and may I add a proven track record of not following their own correct legal procedures, let alone them being worlds apart from what we consider to be a fair and just legal procedure.

I am so angry that you and your relevant departments have done nothing to help Mr Assange to be able to gain fair and reasonable representation on the world stage ( given that of course this is of major world interest ) and that you have the position to be able to do this on such a level.

In “FACT” your government have done more for convicted drug dealers in Indonesian prisons, than for Mr Assange, who has not been convicted of anything.

What a poor representation you and your departments have shown to the Australian people, ( considering you are “our “representatives ), and the almost utter contempt you have so eagerly shown to one of our own! ( without any legal basis ).

I re-iterate, I damn well hope I am never in such a position, to have to rely on “MY” government for support in foreign legal matters , except maybe if I decide to smuggle drugs out of Indonesia, then maybe I might get some support?

I implore you to drastically change your position in relation to this matter, and start looking after “Your Own”. I will be eagerly awaiting your response.

In the meantime, I will also be forwarding this open letter to a number of other organizations and groups, including the LNP, the Greens, Get Up, Avaaz, etc, my many personal contacts ( and imploring them to forward it on to their many contacts ( an so forth, and so forth ), as well as, as many media outlets I can think of, in the hope that many more people will feel the same way that I do, ( regardless of how they feel about Mr Assange’s politics ), and hope that “OUR” government will actually start to “REPRESENT” “US” and stop playing “SILLY” “BLOODY” political games.
