Dear All,
I am raising funds for a trust to encourage undergraduates to undertake social justice projects that was established for one of my graduates, Sandy Duncanson, who died after a 16 year long battle with cancer.
A great video of Sandy’s story is at http://www.abc.net.au/news/video/2011/04/15/3193135.htm
Would appreciate any help you can give in either supporting the cause with a donation or passing on my request to mutual contacts.
The Inaugural Sandy Duncanson Social Justice Lecture was delivered by former High Court Justice Michael Kirby and can be found on the right hand side of the UTAS home page at http://www.utas.edu.au/
Thank you in advance.

Shaving for Social Justice
Over $3000 has been pledged in donations (and a handful of actual donations) if I shave my beard to raise funds for the Sandy Duncanson Social Justice Fund.
How can I refuse the challenge?
The challenge is simple. Help me raise the following amounts of money and I will:
Shave my head when we raise $5000.
Shave my beard and head when we raise $10,000.
All Australian donations are tax deductible.
Donate via http://www.utas.edu.au/foundation/sandy-duncanson-social-justice-fund
All US donations are tax deductible via http://www.utasfoundationusa.com/
US donors specify the Sandy Duncanson Social Justice Fund on the donation form
UTAS Foundation will match these funds $1 for $1. If we can raise $10,000 the fund will receive a total of $20,000.
This will be the first time in over 16 years I will be without a beard.
$10,000 = $3000 in pledges plus:
• $5 per Facebook friend or
• 1 billable hour for 20 lawyers or their firms or
• $100 per international colleague or
• 14 people donating $500 each.
Any money received by the Sandy Duncanson Social Justice Fund from this time until the end of June will be counted towards this particular event.
Pictures of a shaved Rick will be posted if we reach the two targets.
It is the middle of winter and a friend wrote “”Happy to support (although a friend of mine shaved off a beard of 20+ years a while ago. The dog attacked him, his children cried and his wife slept in the spare room until he grew it back!). John”
My daughter Elise (now almost 20) can’t remember me without a beard and I think Esther will opt for the exile option until I grow the beard back. Lance points out that our dog Sophie attacks people who turn up in a different hat – I could be in trouble.
