The West Coast council is supporting a group that is examining claims some Roseberry residents are being poisoned by heavy metals.
The group consists of local mine owner, the Minerals & Metals Group, unions, the council, the Health Department, the EPA, the Heavy Metals Task Force, and a community representative.
About 10 Roseberry residents have approached law firm Slater & Gordon about legal action against the state government, the council and the mine. West coast mayor Darryl Gerrity says the council is supporting efforts to investigate claims.
“Arrangements will be made this week for a meeting as soon as possible to look at the whole issue in Roseberry. It won’t be the judge and jury of this issue, it’ll be a reference group because there are other experts out there working at this, and hopefully, get to the bottom of this issue”.
