Results from independent polling into the key issues for Tasmanians in the 2010 State Election released today by the Our Island Our Voices campaign reveals that education and health are the top election issues for the majority of Tasmanians.
Campaign spokesperson and TasCOSS CEO, Tom Muller said the polling should send a clear message to the political parties that health and education will be the key issues in voters minds come March 20.
“36%of Tasmanian voters nominated education and 47% nominated issues relating to health as their key issues in deciding which party to vote for in the March State Election,” Mr Muller said.
The polling was conducted by a leading Tasmanian research company EMRS over the week beginning November 16, just one week after their most recent po ll on likely voting intentions in the March election.
“Our polling followed the exact same method used by EMRS in their mu ch publicised recent poll into likely voting intentions with 1,000 Tasmanians randomly surveyed over the five electorates,” Mr. Muller said.
“The results are telling, with education and health clearly the most important issues in the minds of voters across all five electorates and all demographics.”
“Voters who identified themselves as undecided on which party they are going to vote for in March also overwhelmingly nominated education and health as the most important issues in deciding which party will ultimately win their support.”
Mr Muller said the polling showed that all parties need to start talking more about their policies in the core areas that affect all Tasmanians.
“All parties and candidates need to start talking more about what they intend to do in areas like health and education that will make a difference in the lives of all Tasmanians.”
“There are clearly votes to be won between now and March for the party that is prepared to make significant policy and funding commitments to improve the education outcomes, health and lifestyles of all Tasmanians.”
