Still Need Independent Audit of Bartlett’s Claims

The Tasmanian Greens today reaffirmed their position that no campus should be forced into Premier David Bartlett’s Tasmania Tomorrow system until the current mess has been cleaned up.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that with teachers contradicting Mr Bartlett’s claims of improved retention, and the CEO of the Polytechnic unable to say how many students are enrolled, it is also time for an independent audit of Mr Bartlett’s enrolment and retention claims.

“No campus should be forced into Mr Bartlett’s Tasmania Tomorrow experiment until we can be sure that it will deliver for teachers and students. At the moment it appears as if it has resulted in worse educational outcomes, not better ones,” Mr McKim said.

“Mr Bartlett should not force more campuses into the Tasmania Tomorrow until he cleans up the mess he has created.”

“Mr Bartlett’s credibility is on the line here, with teachers telling me that his claims cannot possibly be true, and the head of the Polytechnic admitting that the government has no idea how many students are enrolled. An independent audit is the only way we can arrive at the truth.”

Mr McKim said that given both his and Mr Bartlett’s absence from Parliament tomorrow to support Tasmania’s dairy farmers in their struggle against National Foods, the House of Assembly should be recalled on Friday to debate the Tasmania Tomorrow debacle.
