Stop the Bullying and arrogant behaviour

The Tasmanian Greens today urged the Premier to intervene to guarantee that negotiations with unions over Allied Health Professionals wages and conditions recommence immediately and are held in good faith, to avoid potential industrial action.

Greens Health and Human services spokesperson Cassy O’Connor MP said that by refusing to negotiate over competitive wages and conditions the government is risking driving health professionals to look for work elsewhere, and that the community cannot afford to lose these services.

“It beggars belief that in the current climate where the state is struggling to attract and retain skilled workers across the health sector, and while the demand for health services is increasing, that the Bartlett government appears to be doing its best to antagonise our Allied Health Professionals,” Ms O’Connor said.

“Cancelling revised wages and conditions discussions with the CPSU and HACSU at the last minute smacks of bullying and arrogance, and certainly is not clever, kind or connected.”

“Breaking promises, going back on deals, refusing to engage in genuine discussions, and forcing workers to breaking point where they feel they have no option but to resort to industrial action is becoming a hallmark of this so-called Labor government.”

“Allied Health Professionals provide critical services to the community and this demand is increasing but unless the Bartlett government treats them with respect we will lost them to other states who will offer competitive wages and work conditions.”

“The Premier must intervene and direct that these revised wages and conditions negotiations recommence swiftly, and that they are conducted by the government in good faith,” Ms O’Connor said.
