Clive says: “Global warming is uniquely dangerous because victory can come too late. Unless it occurs now a sudden awakening by governments to the peril will be too late; the global climate system will have shifted course and the future will have been taken out of our hands.”
Yes. It would have been good to have abolished slavery 50 (20, 200) years earlier, but it was still a good move when it finally happened.
Climate change action isn’t like that. If governments around the world don’t force drastic emissions cuts by 2020 (or is it 2015) they may as well not bother at all.
Do what Mike Bolan says – go local, decouple yourselves as much as possible from the world economic system. That sort of move on a large scale would be positive, defiant and persuasive.
On top of that, when the cause is so clear, do what is right even if it doesn’t fit in with the laws of the currently powerful.
The law itself may not be an ass, but some of those who take it so seriously while much greater things are at stake are vastly worse than asses.
Hail the Hazelwood protesters!
