TASMANIA’S legal fraternity has defended the state’s newest judicial appointment.

Magistrate Helen Wood was last week announced as the replacement for Justice Pierre Slicer on the Tasmanian Supreme Court.

But questions have been raised about the make-up of the panel that recommended her.
