Proceedings will begin in the Federal Court in Hobart at 10am today in a case to decide if the Federal Minister for the Environment has allowed Tassal’s controversial salmon farm at Okehampton Bay to operate in accordance with the law, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

At issue is whether the Notice (go-ahead) granted by the Minister correctly described the project, as required by the Act. Also at issue is whether the Minister denied procedural fairness by failing to consult the parties after the project was altered from its original design.

The case against the approval of the industrial fish farm is being jointly undertaken by the Bob Brown Foundation and two companies operated by philanthropist Graham Wood who is converting the nearby former Triabunna woodchip mill to a modern tourism facility.
