Petuna has commended the Tasmanian Government on taking an important step to ensure the future growth and ongoing sustainability of the aquaculture industry, with the launch of the Sustainable Industry Growth Plan.
Petuna Acting CEO David Wood said the company endorsed the Government’s overall vision for the industry and was dedicated to helping achieve it.
“The Plan is a good working document, which will provide the platform for a greater sense of cohesion and collaboration within the industry,” Mr Wood said.
“It will hopefully also help to build the community’s confidence in the environmental regulation and transparency of the aquaculture industry in Tasmania.
“The Tasmanian aquaculture industry has always strived to be the most environmentally sustainable salmon industry in the world.
“Petuna is continuously improving its environmental performance through investment in solution-driven research and innovation.
“Recognising there is still work to be done, we welcome an ongoing discussion with the Government to ensure the Plan is successful and the industry can continue to grow, along with the benefits it provides to our regional areas.”
Petuna alone is now one of the state’s largest job creators, employing around 350 people, including 250 within aquaculture in regional and remote areas.
