Hands off our ABC: Email Communications Minister Mitch Fifield
MEAA16.05.18 4:34 pm
Perhaps the first problem that needs solving is the confusion between journalism and entertainment.
Scrap the MEAA and form a body to represent professional journalists if there are enough left to have a quorum of 5 to run a meeting. Have that organisation focus on issues like how to accurately report an event, and why it is important to report all events even when they offend powerful political forces. See recent John Hawkins article on this site about SeaFish Director charged with Australia’s biggest drug haul.
Let the actors, artists and entertainers go do their own thing. They are conflicting the interests of serious journalism and its role as a fundamental pillar of a free society.
