The worldwide community of museums will celebrate International Museum Day on and around 18 May 2018. Participation in this event is growing among museums all over the world. In 2017, more than 36,000 museums in some 157 countries participated.

This year marks the third year in a row that the Devonport Regional Gallery takes part in this world-wide event, which is an opportunity to raise the awareness of the role that cultural institutions play in our community.

“Members of the Friends of the Gallery and the Devonport Regional Gallery Advisory Board have selected works from the City’s Permanent Art Collection and will give short presentations about the objects, the artists, and why these works caught their eye.” Said Erin Wilson, Gallery Curator.

The objective of International Museum Day is to raise awareness of the fact that, Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.
