The Wilderness Society today announced the postponement of the planned Tarkine rally until early next year, to give Tasmanians time to focus upon discussion and debate about the Tasmanian Forest Agreement in the lead up to an important vote in the Tasmanian Legislative Council on the 11th of December 2012.
The rally was announced for December 9th and promoted weeks ago, but now clashes with the recalled Upper House sitting and debate on the Forest Agreement.
“This is a difficult but necessary decision.” said Vica Bayley, Tasmanian Campaign manager for The Wilderness Society.
“We are committed to working towards proper protection for the Tarkine and will continue to campaign via a whole range of measures, but we do not wish to distract public focus away from the history making Tasmanian Forest Agreement and the looming vote in the Upper House.

Someone spoke to someone else when both realised…
Spoken like a true spinmeister Vica. You’ve got this gig down pat. Nice. xxxx
Is he so flash Pilko? Did he have to be alerted by someone as to the anomaly of his position?
Was the Tarkine mining door opened when they sat at the timber roundtable? They ignored the warnings. Did et/tws associates help to open the mining doors by sitting at the timber talks?
An open cut makes lots of sense if you want to harvest a lot of timber beforehand, doesn’t it? So the timber talks opened the door to Tarkine mining. Congrats to et/tws. An industry win/win. Job done.
(Also we have csg fracking to happen here yet.) Oh, and a Tamar Valley pulp mill is still on the books.
TWS needs to be on their best behaviour or Terry and Bob will punish you by logging that 108,000 hectares and leaving it on Burnie Wharf.
TGC, Pilko and Russell should disclose whether they own chainsaws.
#5 You should disclose your name & if you are a member or employee of any of the ENGO signatories.
And yes, i’m in the market for a chainsaw and open to reccomendations from any of my fellow rednecks. Stihl’s & Husky’s very expensive but come with good reputations. I’ll buy second hand if any readers are selling a good quality saw. xxxx
