Tarkine National Coalition and partners Groundswell Tasmania have today conducted a protest at the gate of the proposed Venture Minerals’ Stanley River mine.

40 protestors gathered outside the mine gate with banners as four protestors entered the site to unfurl a banner reading ‘Stop the MisadVenture – No new mines in the Tarkine!’

“We are sending a message to Venture Minerals that they can take no comfort to be had in Minister Burke’s failures to protect the Tarkine”, said Tarkine National Coalition’s Campaign Coordinator, Scott Jordan.

“We are putting Venture’s investors and financiers on notice that we will be here at every step to ensure that this mine does not go ahead.”

Spokesperson for Groundswell Tasmania, Colette Harmsen expressed the groups concern about increased mining traffic causing increases in wildlife roadkill.

“This region provides habitat for the last wild-living DFTD free devils in Tasmania. Not enough is being done to protect these devils from impacts of increased road use in the area.”
