Liberal Party State President Geoff Page today (Sat) announced that the Liberal Party had opened the process of endorsement for the next State Election and has advertised in all three Tasmanian Papers this morning.

“The coming state election is an exciting opportunity for Tasmanians to be part of the Liberal team that gets Tasmania back on track, ” Mr Page said.

“This State has been let down by this failed minority Government experiment, we need a strong Majority Liberal Government.

“The Will Hodgman-led Liberal Team is very enthusiastic about Tasmania’s future, and has a strong plan to deliver jobs and opportunity for all Tasmanians.”

Mr Page said that the Liberal Party process of candidate identification has been ongoing for some time, and he was encouraged by the calibre of people interested in joining the Will Hodgman team.

He added that the Party had built maximum flexibility into its process to allow it to put together the best team possible to deliver the Majority Liberal Government Tasmania so desperately needs.

Anyone interested in discussing candidacy further should contact Mr Page or the State Director for a confidential discussion.

Mr Guy Barnett, will express interest for the Liberal Party to run at the forthcoming State election. The Liberal Party advertised (in Tasmania’s 3 daily newspapers) today (Saturday) for expressions of interest.

“Tasmanians deserve a new start. It is time to replace despondency and despair, with hope and opportunity. Record lows in investor and consumer confidence, a struggling economy, and the highest unemployment in the country. We must rid this state of the anti-development agenda that permeates the air we breathe. The Greens have been leading this government by the nose. Enough is enough.

Tasmania desperately needs some ‘can do’ leadership with an unequivocal growth development and jobs agenda.

The answer is a majority Liberal Government led by Will Hodgman MP.

I have been inundated with requests to run for Parliament. Hardly a day goes past without people asking and some imploring me to run.

Representing one’s community is a privilege and I cherished my role as a Senator. Being part of a team to help Tasmania harness its untold potential would be an honour.

I will be expressing interest but will not make a final decision until early in 2013.

The Tasmanian Green/Labor government is focussed on one thing – its political survival. The Green’s price for Labor to stay in power is more lock-ups, industry closure and their extreme social agenda. The pendulum has swung too far. We need a more balanced approach.

The so-called forest peace deal is a dud and a con. The government has no mandate for this deal and should take it to an election”, Mr Barnett said.

Mr Guy Barnett, a lawyer and consultant was a Senator for nine and a half years including five years in the Howard government. “One important lesson from my time in the Howard government is that we need a strong economy to afford sustainable health, education and police services”, he said. He attended Hagley Farm school and has worked as a lawyer in Melbourne and Washington, D.C. and was senior adviser to the former Premier Robin Gray at age 26 years. He also owned and managed his award winning government and corporate consulting business for 13 years.

Mr Barnett who has type 1 diabetes, has been a champion for healthy lifestyles and is Ambassador for Diabetes Australia and Diabetes Tasmania. He is married with three children.
