I will be working my way south from near Devonport today, with the election barrow, campaigning along the proposed Australian Convict Trail, which I first proposed during the last Federal Election, running in Tasmania from the Bass Strait ferry to Port Arthur, through Lyons. ~
This trail would create another level of tourist experience on the island, for walking and cycling, and bring more visitors to country towns.
Once established, and with community, business and political support, the main route of the trail could branch out to many historic towns in Tasmania.
Walking between towns was once one of the main ways of getting around, in old Van Diemen’s Land.
