The Government in conjunction with TasNetworks has confirmed the position that electricity poles and wires classified as ‘private’ infrastructure are privately owned.
While there has been recent uncertainty, this clarifies the long-term understanding regarding ownership of private poles.
TasNetworks has discussed the findings with key stakeholders including the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association and will continue to communicate with private infrastructure owners.
It is recognised that from time to time there will be unique cases that will need to be assessed on a case by case basis to clarify the ownership of that infrastructure. A dispute resolution process has been developed by the Government to resolve any issues in these small percentage of cases.
