WRITER & REDUNDANT PUBLIC SERVANT
ABOLITION OF STATE PARLIAMENT
Well known River Campaigner and Round The World Yachtsman Jim Collier announced his intention today to stand as an “INDEPENDENT” candidate for Bass in the recently announced state election.
On election, bearing in mind the adage that Guy Fawkes was considered to be the only person to ever enter parliament with good intent, before the conclusion of the next session of State Parliament Mr. Collier intends to introduce a Private Members Bill proposing the abolition of Tasmania’s state parliament.
Current parliamentary powers to be devolved between local and federal government.
Jim Collier said:
“Advancements in technology (especially in communications and aviation) since the days of settlement; the horse & buggy and the sailing ship has rendered outmoded anachronisms such as state parliaments which are now an unnecessary burden on taxpayers.”
He stressed:
“We simply have too many politicians and bureaurocrats!”
Continuing he pointed out:
“Australia is a single nation and with a population of approximately only 21 million people is one of the most over governed nations in the world.
Tasmania with a population of less than half a million and three levels of government even more so.”
Mr. Collier says that as an Independent Candidate he is unable to offer the electorate the millions of dollars that the major political parties are currently spreading around however he can assure Tasmanians that abolition of Tasmania’s parliament will ultimately save millions of dollars a year all to become available for Tasmania’s fragile health system, housing, aged care, education, roads, rail and other infrastructure.
