Very strange reporting indeed. How on earth can a party be thrown off balance and have its own plans thrown into disarray by its own preselection decision? Looks like a rather extreme form of hype by the reporter.

As for the 1-3-1 scenario in Franklin, it is pretty outlandish but I have now and again wondered if it can happen, and concluded that it isn’t impossible if the swing is really, really on. Bear in mind that Franklin is notionally 2-2-1 already courtesy of the redistribution, but the Liberals need a swing of practically a full quota to do better than that. It’s an outside chance, a few percent maybe at this stage.
